Week 38

  Week 38 Mar 30- Apr 6, 2026 Mon. We pulled up anchor and traveled 16 nautical miles to Georgetown, S.C. this morning. We had lots of dolphins swimming with us today. My favorite is when they play and jump in our wake. We went to the Maritime museum which had several interesting stories. One of the ships from here was the first integrated ship with black and white service members serving together. Many wooden sailboats made this their port. Next we went to the Gullah museum. Gullahs are the decendants of the slaves. Michelle Obama, Michael jordan, and James brown are gullahs. They brought the rice crop from West Africa. Rice became the most profitable crop here in Georgetown with many very wealthy families. Georgetown has more antebellum houses still standing than Charleston. We walked down a street for several blocks with many of these beautiful antebellum mansions. The live oak trees are so big they form a canopy over the road. Truly old south grandeur!
